In 1959, my dad bought a new 14-foot fiberglass ski boat with a Mercury Mark 30 outboard, providing kindling for my love of boats. Over the years, my dad also taught me some wood working skills. In time, I developed a love for both boats and wood. Now that I am older than my dad was then, I have learned to appreciate old things – old people, old dogs, old houses, old trucks, old motorcycles, and especially old boats. Consequently, it seemed a natural thing for me to develop a passion for old wooden boats; it was the perfect combination.

Along the way, I also developed some writing skills. In early 2016, I was given the opportunity to become the Managing Editor of The Brass Bell, the award-winning magazine of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club, in which role I still proudly serve.

As a member of the antique and classic boating community, I keep current with trends and happenings in the industry. I am a member, and serve on the Board of Directors, of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club. I am also a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, the ACBS Blue Ridge Chapter, and the Lyman Boat Owners Association. Additionally, I am a former President and Vice President of the Wooden Boat Association of North Texas. I attend antique and classic boat shows around the country, and belong to more than 50 boating-related groups on Facebook.

Besides writing, my chief passion is learning the fine art of wooden boat restoration. My fleet of project boats includes three Chris-Crafts, a Speed Liner, a Lyman, a Thompson, and a couple of classic fiberglass ski boats, along with a collection of vintage outboard motors.

I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Ellijay, Georgia, with my wife, Patrice, a freelance Creative Director, and our boxer, Jake. I recently retired from Accenture where I was doing project management, systems design, and implementation consulting, specializing in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the boatXchg.com Website, and that you find it of great value. Please visit regularly and frequently.

Happy boating, my friends!
